If you’re buying your own health insurance in 2018, here are the only companies that will be available. Sorry to say that there aren’t any other options. If you currently have Anthem Blue Cross individual Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) health insurance, it will be ending on 12/31/17. Open Enrollment starts 11/1/17. You must get enrolled in a new individual plan by 12/15/17 to have new coverage starting 1/1/18.
… the only true PPO in CA. While there will be out of network benefits (after a very high deductible), the Blue Shield customer support has all but disappeared; we have no access which means that our lovely clients will be contacting Blue Shield themselves. This is the company that shut down for a week last year to save money!
…a self-contained HMO… ya gotta go there or you get nada!
…will continue to have one of the smallest networks (mostly an HMO, however a PPO will be available in a few counties) and possibly THE worst customer service in the entire state; also, no out of network benefits; I haven’t used HN in several years.
…will continue to have an even smaller EPO network (Cedars-Sinai Hospital is NOT included), and is only in Orange County, San Francisco and part of LA County; no out of network benefits; but a super-slick website!
Molina Health Care and L.A. Cares
… these are based on a Medi-Cal model and run like Medi-Cal clinics. You must go to one of their clinics otherwise there are no benefits.
