There are four distinct areas of West Hollywood:
  • The Sunset Strip (from Doheny to Crescent Heights BID - known formally as the Sunset Strip Business Association)
  • Santa Monica Boulevard from Doheny to LaCienega (Westside, included Historic Boys Town area)
  • Santa Monica Boulevard from LaCienega to LaBrea (Mid-city and Eastside)
  • West Hollywood Design District (A BID that includes Robertson, Beverly Boulevard and Melrose in the district)

The City is also one of the first in the country to formulate a marketing & visitor bureau as a BID based on hotel bed tax assessments.

The International Downtown Association estimates that more than 1,500 Business Improvement Districts currently operate throughout the United States and Canada.  A Business Improvement District may provide services such as, identity formation, market research and economic development in addition to services provided by local government.  Business Improvement Districts also provide physical improvements such as entry features, benches, or lighting.  These services are concentrated within a geographic area and are paid for through special business owner assessment.  A Board of Directors, established by the business owners representing those who pay the assessment, governs the organization responsible for providing these services

The City supports the development of these types of business driven efforts. The Santa Monica Boulevard BID will be the City’s fourth business improvement district when established. Previously established BIDS include the West Hollywood Design District, The Sunset Strip Business Association as well as the West Hollywood Marketing & Visitors Bureau as a Tourism BID.

The budgets created from the total assessments paid by the businesses in each area for the BIDs provide services for marketing, streetscape improvements, security enhancements, maintenance programs, special programs, special projects, advocacy and administration to benefit businesses within the district.

Visit West Hollywood BID
*Visit WeHo

The mission of Visit West Hollywood (fka the West Hollywood Marketing & Visitors Bureau) is to market the City of West Hollywood as a “first choice” visitor destination to business and leisure travelers by promoting an awareness of the City’s unique location, image, businesses and industries and by providing requested support for the City’s economic development efforts.

West Hollywood Design District BID (WHDD)

WHDD’s mission is to facilitate the promotion of West Hollywood Design District as a premier destination for art, fashion, design, restaurants and specialty retail; The Board of Directors works to represent the best interests of District businesses in its recommendations for the development and implementation of the District's yearly work program. The Board of Directors leads the vision for the district and offers advice and recommendations through District staff as well as facilitating communications between District businesses, the City, Visit West Hollywood and the West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.  The organization’s leadership also acts in an advisory capacity to the City on projects that impact the District. These activities build community between members, consumers and the City of West Hollywood.

Sunset Strip Business Association BID (SSBA)

The SSBA is a private nonprofit corporation run by Sunset Strip business owners in West Hollywood with approximately 200 members comprised mainly of businesses in the hotel, restaurant, retail, valet/parking and nightclub areas. Its directive is to manage the Sunset Strip Business Improvement District (BID), created in 2001, under contract with the City of West Hollywood, with the goal of providing private security (Ambassadors) to The Strip, increased street maintenance presence, and coordinate public outreach activities

Santa Monica Boulevard / Historic Boys Town

On the Westside of West Hollywood from La Cienega to Doheny is an inspiring walking exploration of Los Angeles culture, featuring a vibrant LGBT community, lively cafes and restaurants.  Larger-than-life public art exhibits line the boulevard as you head to the award winning West Hollywood Library and West Hollywood Park.  This iconic boulevard, part of legendary Route 66, is a true reflection of its residents and home to several historic landmarks. The west end is the center of the city’s renowned LGBT community and nightlife also known as “Historic Boys Town”.  Here, municipal flagpoles proudly fly rainbow flags and rainbow cross walks at the corner of San Vicente and Santa Monica Boulevard.

Santa Monica Boulevard – Mid-City/Eastside

Santa Monica Boulevard is also known as West Hollywood’s 1.9 mile stretch of Historic Route 66. This thoroughfare from Crescent Heights to La Brea is an eclectic mix of businesses. Anchored at La Brea by the West Hollywood Gateway, Mid City/Eastside is an up and coming area of West Hollywood - young and hip amidst a rich culture of Russian heritage and remains a mix of old and new.  There is clear evidence of transformation underway and the east end is exploding with new development with two new mixed use projects featuring residential units, ground floor retail and subterranean parking, creating “contemporary ‘green’ urban villages” for luxurious living.
